Research Assistant I
Silver Spring, MD
 
Parsons is seeking a Research Assistant I to support the NeuroTrauma Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) research program at the Naval Medical Research Center (NMRC), located at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, in Silver Spring, MD.  Parsons provides scientific, technical and programmatic support services to NMRC.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Assists in executing and implementing scientific research in the areas of traumatic brain injury and/or post-traumatic stress disorder.
  • Performs laboratory research utilizing a variety of experimental techniques in neuroscience, experimental psychology, and cellular/molecular biology. Specifically, common lab techniques will involve animal surgery and behavioral testing, ELISA, PCR, hormone assays, and others as necessary.
  • Maintains databases. Performs data entry for research projects ensuring that data is entered for analysis in a timely, efficient manner.  Ensures that the confidentiality and security of data are maintained.
  • Collects and handles samples and keeps detailed records of experiments.
  • Assists with the preparation of data and manuscript for scientific presentations or journal publications.
  • Provides basic data analysis and interpretation.
  • Assists with the coordination of organized meetings and training.  May include conference calls, space reservations, catering, creates/gathers informational documents and equipment, registration, and travel.
  • Maintains cleanliness of laboratory areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of neuroscience and related cellular/molecular biology are required.
  • Experience in animal handling; animal behavioral testing; animal surgery and aseptic techniques; molecular techniques such as ELISAs, PCR, or hormone assays 
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biology and/or neuroscience, experimental psychology or related discipline.
  • 0-2 years relevant experience
Physical Capabilities: 
Long periods of standing and sitting; intricate work with hands; handling of specimens or chemicals
