Parsons is pleased to announce that it has been selected by Leidos, through a competitive process, as the general contractor to perform design, engineering, and construction management for Antarctic infrastructure improvement efforts under the AIMS and Leidos Antarctic Support Contract with the National Science Foundation. This program supports McMurdo Station in Antarctica and runs from 2018 – 2026.  

The Antarctic Infrastructure and Modernization for Science (AIMS) project is an initiative of the National Science Foundation's (NSF) United States Antarctic Program (USAP) and is a major capital investment effort to support the United States' world-class science program in Antarctica. The infrastructure modernization being proposed under the AIMS project is to ensure that McMurdo Station remains a viable platform for supporting Antarctic science for the next 35 to 50 years.

The first phase includes a data center addition and above and below ground utilities installation. Parsons is looking for a piping utilities crew for the January2019 – April 2019 and October 2019 – February 2020 season to install fuel, sanitary, water, and hydronic piping. This is an exciting opportunity to travel to New Zealand, Antarctica, and be part of an exciting and mega project in Antarctica that is valued at over $250M.

Salaries are competitive with similar positions in the U.S., and benefits are offered. Pay is direct deposited in your U.S. bank account. Airfare from your home to the station is included, as is room and board. Employees working broth seasons is desired but not a requirement. Retention bonuses available for returning employees for the second season.

Employees live in dormitory rooms, with meals provided. Dining is cafeteria-style, and recreational opportunities include educational and physical activities.  Communication with family and friends is available through Internet and telephone. No personal use of Skype™ or similar types of video chat communication is allowed because of bandwidth limitations.

The ideal candidate will be able to Fuse and Install insulated hydronic CMP piping (15”), Water CMP ping (18”), and Sanitary piping (15”) in outdoor conditions.

  • 17+ years in pipe laying experience.
  • Expert experience in using a fusion machine.
  • Able to operate a forklift.
In addition to the required job skills, all candidates must pass strict physical and dental examinations, a pre-employment background check, a drug screen, and proof of U.S. citizenship.
