Civil Engineer I – Road & Highway – Detroit ( Southfield), Michigan

We are looking for an experienced Civil Engineer with three to five years of experience in road/highway/drainage design; one who pays attention to the small details that make the greatest designs.  We work on conventional as well as design/build projects and support projects around the state of Michigan.  We are willing to relocate an individual with solid experience working with other DOT's in other states.  
 
In this role, you will develop roadway alignments, layouts, horizontal and vertical controls, grading and drainage, paving, site utilities, and  ADA requirements.  
 
RESPONSIBILITIES: 
 
  • Completes a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes, utilizing CAE/CAD as applicable.
  • Perform geometric design of Michigan State DOT road & highway projects
  • Prepares standard engineering computations, material quality takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs.
  • Prepares detailed requisitions for equipment and materials.
  • Reviews small and portions of larger supplier drawing submittals and assists in performing technical bid analyses.
  • Prepares and issues specifications, data sheets, and other construction documents.
  • Provides input and technical guidance to CAD Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
  • Utilize training and skills with Microstation for transportation projects design
 
Qualifications:
  • 4-year degree in Civil Engineering 
  • 3 to 5 years of civil engineering experience in road, highway and drainage design
  • Must have experience with Microstation or Geopak 
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) preferred
  • Prefer experience with Michigan Department of Transportation, but will consider  engineers with experience with other state DOT customers.
